Second Screen: What’s the Trend in your Living Room?
Television viewers are more and more likely to engage in their favorite TV shows from their couch via a second screen. Computer, smartphone or tablet – which device is most popular for social TV?
Seevibes studied the evolution of the devices used for social TV between December 2011 and June 2012. Tablets saw the biggest increase with their use nearly doubling over the six months. The second screen is now clearly dominated by mobile devices at the expense of the computer/browser, used by only 38% of social TV participants.
The third generation iPad, the recently announced Nexus 7 — the new Google tablet, and Microsoft Surface will together certainly boost tablet figures even higher. According to predictions from Deloitte, almost 10% of households will be equipped with two tablets by the end of 2012. Come back in December for our follow-up study to see if this prediction comes true.
